In
1991 I was invited to a Country and Western bar in New York.
I was actually going to the bar to be set up with a Country
and Western radio personality that my friend thought I would
like. I wound up dancing all night and having a great time.
I never met the radio personality, but I did decide that I
would continue to learn to dance.
Six months after going to my first Country and Western bar
I found myself on a Division 1 Team (in the United Country
and Western Dance Council) competing nationally. I also managed
to win a spot on the All-Star Denim and Diamonds Outlaws (NYC)
line dance performance team, too. I won't bore you with all
of the details to date, but have since been affiliated with
Country & Western dance competitions. As some of you know,
it's like an addiction... once you get a taste of competition
you cannot stop!
Around 1994 I dabbled in the new dance on the floor called
"West Coast Swing" (WCS). WCS was and still is an
addiction of mine. Currently I am the captain of Swing Shift
Atlanta. We are a competition and exhibition dance team that
was established in 2003. We have placed consistently in the
top 5 on a national level.
I teach WCS and Country couples dances. If you are interested
in a private lesson please email me at YankeeInSouth@hotmail.com
or call 404-579-6578.
